The book’s semi-exaggerated and hear-say-esque tales are funny and provide a somewhat accurate depiction of the ridicuousness one is to encounter on nights out in Japan. However, your demeaning presentation of English conversation teachers in Japan is absolutely deplorable. Good job painting everyone with the same beer-soaked, NOVA-smelling brush, giving the new-comers license to be offensive arses, feeding the fire of the average Japanese person’s mistrust for expats in Japan, AND being a soulless sell-out.
These stories have a right to be told and people undoubtedly want to hear them… but, Mr. Chesney… you will live to regret the package you wrapped them in.

I think you’re missing the point a tad, though. I’m supposed to be satirizing the kind of juvenile behaviour which does go on (and I state explicitly in the text that not all teachers get up to the same antics.) Besides which, getting drunk and getting laid are past-times indulged in by people all over the world (not least the Japanese), and I can’t see why ex-pats should be excluded from the fun.
If, in your opinion, “the average Japanese person mistusts expats in Japan,” (which hasn’t been my experience, by the way) my book ain’t the problem. You’re pandering to xenophobic attitudes.

Of course, when you get to Japan, the first thing all your friends want to know is if you can buy used schoolgirl’s panties in vending machines. The short answer is “yes”. The long answer is “Yes, many years ago. But they stopped it when the company involved was caught selling forgeries.”

I think anyone with the initiative to seek out this book will know that the stories are a tad bit exagerated to make it fun, because hey, its a book, and will also know enough that ALL teachers are not in the same situation… But will also know that stuff like this goes on everyday in Japan!
